The Main Organizing Committee (MOC) for the 22nd National Sports Festival (NSF) on Tuesday expressed satisfaction with preparations by the Ogun government ahead of the games.
The Secretary of the committee, Mrs Techla Opara, gave the commendation while speaking with newsmen at the MKO International Stadium after an inspection of facilities in Abeokuta.
The festival, tagged “2024 Gateway Games”, is scheduled to begin on Nov. 27, 2024.
Opara however hinted that a lot of renovation has to be done at most of the facilities inspected.
She emphasized the need for government to fast track the process of constructing for the festival a swimming pool as well as a shooting range before the next visit.
“We have been taken round various places where the athletes will participate in various events.
“I’m quite impressed and I believe that Ogun will do well. I believe that, as time goes on, a lot of renovations will be done in most of the centers.
“There’s a place where they showed us that they are going to control the swimming pool. They are yet to start work there. So, I want concentration.
”Also, regarding the shooting range, I want more concentration on that before our next visit,” the MOC Secretary said.
Some of the facilities inspected earlier included the Remo Stars Sports Complex at Ikenne and the NYSC Orientation Camp at Sagamu.
The Sagamu facility has been tentatively penciled down to host the weightlifting event.
Others are the Alake Sports Centre at Ijeja, the MKO International Stadium and the shooting range in Abeokuta.
