Nigerians were told yesterday that due to the lack of focus of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to give Nigerians a better direction and the internal crisis in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), another party may emerge.
The party will be formed by APC and PDP members who are dissatisfied with the way the country is being run.
Revealing this in Akure, Ondo State on Wednesday during the South-West PDP Leaders’ meeting, the host governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, said: “Whether we like it or not, PDP is the alternative political party in the country. But if we mess it up, another party will come up. There is no doubt about it Nigerians are waiting. If we mess up, a new party will emerge and become the darling of this country because this country is waiting”.
Mimiko, the Chairman of PDP Governors’ Forum, insisted: “Disunity will lead to further decimation of the party with the aggrieved members leaving the party to form another political party with the relics of the APC who would also leave for various reasons”.
His Ekiti State counterpart, Ayodele Fayose, who harped on the unity of the party at all levels, stressed the need to form a formidable opposition to confront the ruling APC “which has plunged the country into needless crises including petroleum scarcity, herdsmen killings and economic strangulation”.
At the meeting were Chief Bode George, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe, Dr Doyin Okupe, Chief Makanjuola Ogundipe, Senator Iyiola Omisore, Engr. Jide Adeniji, Mrs. Mulikat Akande-Adeola, Oloye Jumoke Akinjide, Prof Taoheed Adedoja, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipupo, Mr. Jimi Agbaje, Chief Segun Adegoke, Chief Jelili Adesiyan and others.
The leaders ignored a factional meeting convened at Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State by self-acclaimed Yoruba PDP leader, Senator Buruji Kashamu.
