Kwara State Police Command, on Friday, confirmed the killing of a young man, Baa Umaru, in Kaiama, who was planning for his wedding.
The Divisional Police Officer in Kaiama, CSP Gbenga Ojo, who confirmed the incident, said the victim was shot around 3.a.m on Friday.
It is believed armed robbers may be behind the killing.
“ I was informed (about the killing) and my men went there. I don’t know where the man was coming from at that time. He was shot on a motorcycle,’’ Ojo said.
The victim was shot dead on the Woro-Kaiama road in Kaiama Local Government Area.
It was learnt that the victim was returning to Tungan Maje from Woro where he had gone to meet his in-laws, ahead of his planned wedding.
A family source said the deceased was shot at a close range on a collapsed bridge near Tunga Maje where he was residing.
The victim, who was in his late 30s, got a divorce last year and was planning to marry a new wife soon when the incident happened, the source said.
“There are road blocks on the road and that is why vigilance groups are deployed there.
“But members of the vigilance group only stay during the day,’’ he said.
The victim may have been trailed by his assailants in order to rob him of the proceeds from the melon he sold at Kaiama market on Thursday before embarking on the journey.
