To have a successful and prosperous year, the Convention President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention, Reverend Samson Ayokunle, has urged management, members of staff and students  of the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to put their trust in God who is the rock of ages. The cleric made the call during 2014 edition of the  Annual New Year Prayer and Thanksgiving Service held at the Theodore Idibiye Auditorium of the University on Thursday January 2, 2014.

The Baptist Minister, who titled his sermon, “The purpose of Divine Presence and its Pre-conditions” took his text from the book of Exodus Chapter 33, verses 12-23.

He advised members of the FUTA community to imbibe team spirit and  also urged them to be cheerful at  all times as they extend the grace of God in their lives to the younger generation.

Ayokunle further advised staff and students of the institution to obey God in totality so as to enjoy his presence always.

In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebiyi Daramola, assured members of staff that more good things would happen in the University in the year 2014. “In 2013 we recorded many major milestones in our declared mission to take FUTA to the market place. We repositioned our university and our leadership  position as the country’s foremost university of technology was not in doubt. Our students came out tops in two major software competitions organised by the Institute of Software Professionals of Nigeria and the Federal Ministry of Education in conjunction with the British Council. Four of our students also took advantage of our collaboration with the Florida Agricultural  and Mechanical University, FAMU. They are there now to complete their degree programmes. Our Dean, Students Affairs, Dr Kayode Alese, in conjunction with his team,  presented a paper at the International Conference for Internet Technology and Security organized by the World Congress in Internet Security in England . The paper was adjudged the best out of 1241 papers from 96 countries. We have every reason to be grateful to God,” Daramola said.

The Vice Chancellor, who commended the workers for their peaceful conduct, patience and tolerance in the outgone year, thanked them for their dedication and cooperation at all times.

The service was attended by the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Professor Adedayo Fasakin, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Development), Professor Tolulope Akinbogun, the Registrar, Dr Modupe Ajayi,  principal officers, deans, academic and non academic staff and students.
