Lagos FA begins preparation for National Youth Games

sportsThe Lagos State Football Association will on Monday commence preparation for the National Sports Commission (NSC) organised National Youth Games holding this year in September in Abuja.

The NYG which is an annual youth development programme would see the state presenting two teams for Boys and Girls categories with the Zonal Elimination holding in Ibadan for zone 1.

Lagos State will be competing for the two tickets available for the zone in both categories against Oyo, the host state, Ogun, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti States starting from August 14, 2013 to 18th.

Speaking after the meeting of the Technical committee of the board, Dotun Coker revealed that the screening of players will commence on Monday as directed by the State Sports Council.

He informed that the first round of screening will end on the 23rd of this month, while urging the coaches to abide strictly with the guidelines of the youth games by ensuring that the players are under- 17 before the beginning of the zonal elimination.

Coker further disclosed that the final-18 players for each of the category would ready before the team’s departure for Ibadan on the 13th of August, 2013, adding that players discovered from the ongoing State Principals Cup and other youths tournaments across the state have been invited for the first phase of screen.

Also speaking during the meeting that has the likes coach Tunde Disu, (CFR), Roger Appleby, Mojeed Adegbindin and Gafaar Liameed, vice chairman of the board, Tade Azeez stated that the committee and the coaches should make sure the right set of players were picked.

“Please ensure that the right players with the correct ages as stated in the guideline are the one picked, because I know that we have the talents in the state that can do as well as our Golden boys and girls of the festival team”. He said.
