The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Kwara have agreed to deepen their collaboration to free Nigeria of corruption and also reduce road mishaps.
The agreement was reached on Friday, when the Ilorin Zonal Commander of EFCC, Michael Nzekwe, received the Sector Commander, FRSC, RS8.1 Kwara Command, Fredrick Ogidan, in his office at the GRA, Ilorin.
They agreed to strengthen ties toward achieving the common objective of national safety and security.
Speaking on the essence of the visit, Ogidan said that it was important for agencies of government to work together to make the country a better place for all.
He said that collaboration between EFCC and FRSC was very necessary, pointing out that the task of restoring integrity to the country through anti-graft war and bringing sanity to the nation’s highways rested on the two agencies.
He identified corruption as one of the major problems facing the country.
According to Ogidan, whoever does not support the efforts being championed by the EFCC in ridding the country of corruption is unpatriotic.
He praised the Ilorin Zonal Command of the commission for complying with safety rules and regulations.
“I’ll like to commend you on the invitation extended to us some weeks back to train your officers on basic safety rules and regulations on the highways.
“It is quite commendable! If there is any other area you need our support, our doors are always open for you,” Ogidan said.
The state FRSC boss also promised to support the anti-graft agency with intelligence, adding that the corps had a strong database and an intelligence department of international standard.
He said, “collaboration should be all-inclusive and corruption must be killed before Nigeria will work again.”
In a remark, Nzekwe, who was visibly elated over the visit, commended the FRSC for always being supportive to the commission over the years and ensuring that desired success was achieved.
“We know the importance of the corps in fighting corruption.
“It is an agency that we really need to partner with to enable us to succeed.
“There are instances when we have had to fall back on the corps, because they keep record of Nigerians, especially vehicle registration and issuance of drivers licence and these are pieces of information that often come handy during investigation,” he said.
The zonal EFCC boss urged the FRSC to continue to support the commission, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.
He promised to build on the existing relationship with the corps, particularly in the area of intelligence gathering and sharing.
