Killings: Deploy soldiers to Nasarawa now, Maku advises Buhari

To stop the high rate of killings in Nasarawa State, President Muhammadu Buhari has been advised to deploy soldiers to the North-Central state.
To former Information Minister, Mr. Labaran Maku, some thugs-turned-terrorists used during the March and April general elections in the state are responsible for the spate of killings.
Maku was the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) during the April 11 election.
He is at the tribunal, challenging the victory of Governor Tanko al-Makura on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maku believes this is not the time to politicise the killings but for the Commander-in-Chief to immediately deploy soldiers to check the terrorists.
Speaking in Abuja, he said: “The increasing cases of killings in some parts of our state is worrisome, hence the need to deploy soldiers to the state. The killings are like what is going on in the North-East by Boko Haram and the situation could degenerate to a more dangerous dimension, if not
checked now.
“No part of the state is safe, including Lafia, the state capital. Soldiers were deployed before and there was peace. The resurgence of open and secret killings and armed
robberies in our state within the short time of the withdrawal of soldiers in strategic areas is alarming.
“Most killings carried out by criminal groups on the roads, farms and in attacks currently going-on in some parts of the state are no longer communal clashes but insurgency and terrorism. “The recent dismantling of military personnel from
checkpoints is worsening criminals’ activities in the state. When the military personnel were in charge of all check points, the rate of criminal activities were reduced”.
He, however, declared that he would restore peace the moment he gets victory from the court.
“I want to assure you that the moment this unelected
government gives way at the end of this tribunal, I will restore peace and return all displaced people back to the communities in two months in collaboration with security agencies,” he said.
