Former Commissioner for Information and governorship aspirant on the platform of Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Ogun State, Mr Sina Kawonise, has urged residents and voters of the state to look beyond the failure of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and support the credible alternative that the SDP provides.
In a statement signed by the Acting Director, SK Campaign Organisation, Mr Doyin Owobamirin, Kawonise drew the attention of Ogun residents to the total collapse of education, health services, infrastructure, massive de-industrialisation, worsening unemployment, heavy backlog of salaries and emoluments to public sector workers and widespread poverty, and urged them to reject whoever Governor Ibikunle Amosun intends to foist on the state to continue with his failed policies and programmes and to cover his tracks.
His words: “With the monumental failure of APC and the huge debt Governor Amosun has plunged the state into – a debt burden of about N370 billion which at the current rate of debt servicing will take the state more than 30 years to pay off – it is obvious that he is in no position to instal another of his ilk to continue with the pillage and destruction of Ogun state”.
Kawonise, therefore, used the opportunity of this year’s Democracy Day celebrations to ask Ogun residents to galvanise themselves into a united force to “reject all discredited and corrupt politicians in political parties that have failed our people in the last 19 years of the current democratic dispensation.
“Our people must wise up to reject the antics of politicians who go about with ill-gotten and blood money to buy the support of the electorate in order to continue to dominate, exploit and pauperise them”.
The former commissioner explained that “politicians who dole out money to buy votes of the people are only doing so to win elections, as they will recoup their money the moment they get to the position of authority and run any policy whether in the interest of the people or not”.
He said it was time to break away from the shackles of god-fatherism and enjoy genuine democracy by joining the SDP, “which belongs wholly to the people”.
