IPAC lauds judgement on Ekiti council poll

The umbrella body of all political parties in Ekiti State, the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC), has welcomed the judgement of an Ado-Ekiti High Court that gave the nod for the conduct of local government election in the state on Saturday.
In a statement in Ado-Ekiti on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer, Mr Ifedayo Iyaniwura, the group said the judgement was a victory for democracy.
IPAC said local government election had not taken place in the state in the last eight years and wondered why some people would still want to frustrate moves to conduct the poll.
“Local government election has not taken place in Ekiti in the last eight years and the implication is that Ekiti State affairs have been running without smooth local government administration in the state which is unpalatable to our precious democracy, and as well, depriving the people at the grassroots a democratic governance,” he said.
Iyaniwura said it should be the view of all the good people of Ekiti State whether supporters or opposition of the current administration that some people must be at the helm of affairs at the local government level for the purpose of development.
He therefore called on well-meaning Ekiti people to support a functional local government system in the state.
The group urged the State Independent Electoral Commission to toe the path of honour by allowing a free and fair poll.
Recalled that Justice Dele Omotosho on Monday struck out two suits filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) challenging the composition of SIEC and its ability to conduct the election.
