Twenty four hours after 21 chiefs were installed as kings by Governor Abiola Ajimobi of Oyo State, the state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned “individuals with political interest to desist from giving the issue, which borders more on governance and progress of the society, another colouration”.
The party also warned against instigating unsuspecting people against the state government, thus creating unnecessary tension in the land, ahead of the 2019 general elections.
Despite protests from the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, and the Osi Olubadan of Ibadanland, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, the 21 chiefs were installed on Sunday at Mapo Hall, Ibadan.
In its reaction on Monday, the APC lauded Ajimobi on the successful coronation of the 21 monarch-chiefs.
The chapter commended Ajimobi in a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Olawale Sadare, in Ibadan, the state capital.
The party applauded the governor for his passion for recording unprecedented feats in the overall interest of the general populace in the last six years..
“A critical appraisal of the development would leave no one in doubt of the fact that Ajimobi prioritised the rapid development of Ibadan land and Oyo State in general.
“He is determined to leave no stone unturned in his quest to put his people on the same pedestal with the developed societies across the globe.
“We appeal with those who might be aggrieved with the development to take a second look at their position or, better still, seek audience with the state government for further clarification,’’ the party said.
The APC state chapter said that they were fascinated by the words of the governor at the coronation ceremony.
The party quoted the governor as saying: “We are not changing history, we are not changing tradition, we are not changing the culture of Ibadanland.
“Rather, we are elevating and consolidating our traditional institution, the exalted position of the Olubadan of Ibadan as the Imperial Majesty in Ibadanland.
“Likewise, the Olubadan-in-Council and the Chieftaincy Institution, without altering or tinkering with the traditional succession and ascendancy system of the Olubadan Chieftaincy structure”.
