Ighalo beaten to October BPL gong

Watford striker, Odion Ighalo, has been beaten to the Premier League player of the month award for October.

The Nigerian star was pipped by James Vardy, whose sensational nine-goal consecutive run earned him rave reviews. The duo were joined by other hopefuls, including the Arsenal duo Mesut Ozil and Oliver Giroud, Manchester City midfielder Kevin de Bruyne and Stoke’s goalkeeper Jack Butland.

Ighalo has been in superb form, scoring three goals in four games in October, starting the month with a goal against Bournemouth before scoring another two against West Ham on the last day of the month to take his tally this season to seven goals.

But it was always going to be hard to overlook Leicester striker Vardy, who netted five goals across four games in October against Norwich, Southampton, Crystal Palace and West Bromwich Albion.
But with only three months gone in the season, 26-year-old Ighalo can keep up the good work and hope for more chances to win laurels. He joined Watford last summer from Udinese after the Italian side released him from his contract.
The winner of the October’s manager of the month is Arsene Wenger.
