A political group, I stand by Saraki team, has urged President Muhammdu Buhari to be sincere in his administration’s fight against injustice and corruption in the country.
The group gave the admonition in a statement by Prince Yusuf Gambari and Alhaja Sarah Adebayo, in Ilorin, Kwara State on Tuesday.
It noted that “the current persecution of the Senate President, Dr Abubakar Bukola Saraki, is as a result of abuse of power by some top APC chieftains who have been using the offices of some highly placed political office holders to bring Saraki to disrepute.”
The group urged Buhari to stick to his widely quoted phrase of “I belong to nobody and I belong to everybody”.
It asked Buhari said to guard against allowing Nigeria “to be controlled like one-man state, it is Nigeria for all well-wishers.
“It is our belief that the political persecution of the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, is a storm that will soon come to an end. It is a willingly planned idea of some self-centred, egoistic political bosses to tarnish the image of a far framed leader who is known to be of a good background .
“It is surprising that a man, who has been in the Senate for the last five years, could be called now for what he has been cleared off before in 2003, 2007, 2011 and 2014 by EFCC/CCT.
“Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made several moves to get Saraki out of office since the emergence of the latter as the senate president.
“Right from inception of the CCT trial, almost all well meaning Nigerians have expressed reservation about the genuiness of Saraki’s trial.
“Tinubu is alleged to have been involved in a related case and the same constitution freed him.
“It is also necessary to call the power intoxicants into order that to God be all the powers. Whoever thinks that he is the leader of the party today and using such power to hunt others should remember the men of yesterday.
“President Muhammed Buhari should also be watchful and be sincere in his fight against injustice and corruption because the current persecution of the senate president is as a result of abuse of power by some top APC chieftains.”
