A socio-cultural group, the Unity Forum, has berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Presidency over attempts to truncate the people’s will expressed in the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State through a military panel to probe the exercise.
The group, which spoke in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday through the Organising Secretary, Alhaji Yusuf Abdulrasak, and the Publicity Secretary, Mr Eniola Oluwagbemiga, chastised the APC for showing anti-democratic tendencies by not accepting defeat in a fair and transparent electoral contest.
The Forum also lampooned The Presidency for conniving with anti-democratic agents to want to ridicule and subvert the will of the people.
“Despite that there is no provision for military court martial or panel in the country’s electoral process, this seemingly attempt is not only outrightly outrageous and provocative, but also condemnable.
“Setting up a military panel after the final judgement by the Supreme Court is a gang up against democracy. Using a military panel to truncate or disrupt a democratically-elected government will be totally resisted by the good people of Ekiti State who overwhelmingly voted for Governor Ayodele Fayose in the last governorship election in the state.
“We want to call on well-meaning Ekiti sons and daughters. Including our traditional rulers to please as a matter of urgency, appeal to President Muhammad Buhari to call members of his party in Ekiti State to order. The Ekiti APC has penchant for refusing to accept defeat because of its anti-democratic tendencies.
“We are also using this medium to appeal to Mr President not to allow his foot soldiers to turn Ekiti State to another war zone. We are pleased with the peace we are enjoying now in the state,” the group said.
It expressed its unflinching support for Fayose, saying his people-centred programmes were bringing relief to the people.
