Pop singer, Shakira marked an historical feat at the Grammys on Sunday, when she became the first artist to win Best Latin Pop Album twice.
The Columbian native won the award category for her album ‘Eldorado’ following her 2001 win in the same award category for her live album ‘MTV Unplugged’.
Shakira, who is a four-time Grammy world record holder, took to her instagram page @shakira to appreciate her fans in two videos; one in Spanish and another in English.
Her win was acknowledged by the Grammy Recording Academy on its Twitter handle @RecordingAcad where it wrote:“@shakira is officially the first female artist to win twice in the Best Latin Pop Album category”.
The singer and belly dancer’s win was widely received by Latinos and minorities on social media as they trooped to congratulate the entertainer.
40 year-old Shakira has released eleven studio albums, four live albums, two compilation albums, forty-nine singles (including nine as featured artist), and nine promotional singles.
Her official song for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, “Waka Waka (This Time for Africa)”, became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time with 10 million downloads.`
With over 1.6 billion views, it is one of the most viewed music videos on YouTube.
In 2011, she was appointed by former U.S. President Barack Obama to the President’s Advisory Commission on Educational Excellence for Hispanics – a four-person group that advises the President and Education Secretary.
