Four killed in Ondo auto crash

Not less than four people were killed in a fatal motor accident that occurred at Igbara Oke, Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State at the weekend.

The accident, which involved an 18-passenger Mazda bus, with registration number Lagos KSF 706 XF and a Honda Accord saloon car, with registration number AA239GBH, also injured 14 persons.

The Officer in charge of Field Operation of the Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Mr Joseph Ojerinde, said the accident that occurred at 6.30 p.m. on Saturday, happened as a result of the reckless driving of one of the drivers of the vehicles involved.

According to him, the two vehicles involved in the crash had a head-on collision, explaining that the Honda car, made a dangerous overtaking and consequently collided with the bus coming from the opposite direction.

“Immediately we were informed about the accident, our men moved to the scene. There, we were told that the Honda Accord car dangerously overtook a vehicle and thereby had a head-on collision with the Mazda bus coming from the other side,” Ojerinde stated

He further explained that the 22 victims of the accident included 14 males, four females and four under-aged children, noting that the four that died were male adults.

The identities of the victims were not known as at the press time but the FRSC officer said the dead had been deposited at the mortuary of the State Specialist Hospital, Akure, the state capital while the injured were taken to the General Hospitals in Igbara Oke and Ilara-Mokin for treatment.
