FirstBank appoints Amaeshi to Samuel Asabia Chair at UNILAG

First Bank Nigeria Ltd. has announced the appointment of Prof. Kenneth Amaeshi as the first occupier of the FirstBank Samuel Asabia Professorial Chair of Business Ethics at University of Lagos (UNILAG).
The is contained in a statement issued on Monday by Olayinka Ijabiyi, Acting Group Head, Marketing and Corporate Communications, FirstBank.
The Samuel Asabia Professorial Chair of Business Ethics is an academic position at the University of Lagos established under FirstBank’s Education Endowment programme.
It was instituted in 1994 in honour of Samuel Asabia, the first indigenous Managing Director of FirstBank Nigeria Ltd.
The endowment programme supports advanced research and learning projects in selected federal universities across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones.
The chair holder leads research initiatives and mentors professionals on business ethics, promoting integrity and responsible leadership.
Amaeshi brings extensive scholarship, expertise and commitment to ethical leadership to the role.
He currently holds professorial chairs in Sustainable Finance and Governance at the European University Institute, Florence, and Sustainable Business and Public Policy at the University of Edinburgh.
His work has influenced global debates on responsible capitalism, governance and Africapitalism, which frames business as a driver of inclusive growth.
Commenting on the appointment, FirstBank Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Olusegun Alebiosu, expressed delight and welcomed Amaeshi.
Alebiosu said Amaeshi’s global expertise “aligns with FirstBank’s vision of sustainable development and principled business practices”.
“This Chair will inspire generations of leaders to drive socio-economic transformation through integrity and innovation,” he said.
The University of Lagos said the appointment reflected a shared commitment with FirstBank to advancing scholarship, integrity and values-driven leadership.
UNILAG added that Amaeshi would inspire students, academics and professionals to lead with ethics, vision and purpose across society.
The FirstBank–UNILAG partnership aims to advance research, mentorship and leadership to shape the future of sustainable finance in Nigeria and Africa.
