FIFA donates reclaimed luxury watches to non-profit group

The FIFA Ethics Committee on Thursday said it had donated 48 luxury watches to Streetfootballworld, a non-profit organisation.
The watches had been provided as unauthorised gifts by the Brazilian Football Association to “certain football officials, including members of FIFA’s executive committee and representatives of football associations” attending a congress prior to the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, FIFA said.
Last year the ethics committee decided against opening disciplinary proceedings against those who had received the watches on condition that they were handed over.
A total of 65 watches were supposed to be presented but only 48 people, including currently suspended UEFA President Michel Platini, received the gift and subsequently, passed the watches on to the ethics committee.
FIFA in a statement said Streetfootballworld “will directly invest all resources generated through the sale of the watches into initiatives across Brazil that use football to drive social change.”
The football governing body has been in the spotlight over corruption allegations which have seen many top officials, including its President, Sepp Blatter being suspended.
