It was a carnival like atmosphere at Ikoro Ekiti on Wednesday when Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Peter Ayodele Fayose, stormed the residence of Mr. Timothy Iseoluwa in Ikoro Ekiti.
The governor, who said he was watching the state-owned TV on Tuesday when he came across a documentary detailing Iseoluwa’s predicament and his urgent need for assistance, said: “I immediately called the Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo who incidentally is from
Ikoro Ekiti to furnish me with details of the man’s situation, it was
then that I was reminded that I was the one who gave him motorcycle
and shoe-making instruments during my first term in office. If someone
with this type of challenge can manage to eke out a living and not resort to begging, we have to come to the aid of such a person”.
The governor went ahead to present N500,000 in cash to Iseoluwa whose building and working tools got destroyed in an inferno few weeks back, the governor thereafter presented him a brand new motorcycle and directed the LG Council boss to place him on N20,000 monthly salary.
Iseoluwa, whose joy knew no bound, thanked the governor and prayed for the success of his administration.
Reacting to the kind gesture of the governor on behalf of Ikoro Ekiti, the Onikoro of Ikoro Ekiti, Oba Olanrewaju Adewaju, thanked the governor and bestowed on Fayose the title “Bashorun” of Ikoro-Ekiti, traditional neck and hand beads were immediately put on the governor’s head and two hands respectively.
The monarch used the opportunity to seek Fayose’s assistance at completing the town’s palace which has remained uncompleted for the past 24 years.
Fayose thanked the monarch and the people of Ikoro-Ekiti for
their uncommon love, promising to come for the coronation of his Chieftaincy title at the completion of his tenure.
The governor promised N1 million for the completion of the palace.
