Rather than behave like the ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) is behaving like an opposition party, thereby disrupting its own programmes and policies.
That was the position of former governor of Niger State, Abdulkadir Kure.
Kure, an engineer and member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Board of Trustees (BoT), stated this at the PDP state secretariat in Minna, the state capital, where flags were presented to the 25 candidates of the party for the November 7 local government election.
“APC has been in government now for five months and Nigerians have not seen any dividend. I believe the change they are now clamouring for is for the PDP to take over from them since they have not performed to the expectations of Nigerians”, he said.
The former governor asked members of the PDP in Niger State to work towards getting ‘real change’ for the state in the local government elections “by winning your wards and local governments”.
“Everyone should team up and ensure that we win all the council seats and councillorship positions in the election”.
PDP National Youth Leader, Alhaji Mohammadu Maibasira, said he was optimistic PDP candidates would defeat their APC counterparts during the election.
A member of the party’s BoT, Ambassador Jibril Wali, urged members to shun acts of hooliganism during the election.
State PDP chairman, Dr Abdulrahaman Enagi, said: “The people have realised their mistake in voting for APC during the last election. It is now time for them to vote for PDP candidates in the council election”.
