For pouring hot water on a 29-year-old Miss Bukola Akinola, one Mrs Rasheedat Adeleke, a business owner, has been arraigned before a Yaba Magistrate Court by the Lagos State Government.

Mrs. Adeleke was arraigned by the police before the Magistrate Court, after the intervention of the State Directorate of Citizens Rights for the alleged offences in Ikotun area of the state.

The business woman, who owns Super King Supreme Store at Ayodele Ogunkoya Street, Ikotun, was said to have assaulted and inflicted injuries on Miss Bukola Akinola, (29) by pouring hot water on her on May 28 at Muriano Close, Saint Saviour Primary School Bus Stop, Ijegun Road, Lagos.

The defendant, according to the charge sheet, committed the offences with others at large.

In count one, it was stated that Rashidat Adeleke and others in May 2021 at No. 15 Adebisi Awolola, Ikotun, Lagos did conspire together to commit felony contrary to section 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

Count two stated the defendant and others at large unlawfully assaulted one Bukola Akinola by beating and pouring hot water on her contrary to section 173 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The counsel from the Directorate for Citizens Rights, Lagos State Ministry of Justice, Ms Kafilat Oseni, said that the absence of the defendant in court on June 24 prompted the arraignment of her 70-year-old surety, Mr Awoniyi Fatoki, who was earlier detained at SCID, Panti due to the defendant’s absence in court.

In her rulings, Magistrate Omobola A. Salau ordered that a N1 million bail be granted to the accused person’s surety for the businesswoman’s absence in court when she was earlier billed to be arraigned.

However, the defendant who appeared before the court for her trial, eventually pleaded not guilty to the offences brought against her.

The case has been adjourned till August 2 for mention.
