Hours after his suspension from office by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “with immediate effect”, the Department of State Services (DSS) has denied arresting former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele.

Reports of Emefiele’s arrest by DSS operatives emerged shortly after he was suspended by Tinubu on Friday night.

Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, the Deputy Governor, Operations Directorate, is to act as Acting CBN Governor, pending the conclusion of investigations into Emefiele’s conduct while in office.

Emefiele was suspended “sequel to the ongoing investigation of his office and the planned reforms in the financial sector of the economy” according to a statement by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume.

In a tweet on Saturday, the DSS said the ousted CBN Governor is not in its customary.
“Currently, Emefiele is not with the DSS”.
