At last,  speculations on whether the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, would be running for  Senate in the 2019 elections have been put to rest in Enugu when his  constituents,  the people of Enugu West senatorial zone, recently stormed his residence  and presented him with a  senatorial nomination form,  urging  him to seek re-election for the fifth tenure,  having performed creditably well as a senator since 2003.
They said that Ekweremadu  has positively touched the lives of the people of the five local government areas in Enugu West Senatorial District despite the prevailing economic challenges in the country.
Presenting the nomination form to him on behalf of the people of Enugu West, President of Enugu West parliament, Hon. Paul Anikwe,  described  Ekweremadu as “God-sent, a developer and a man of the people, who honours God and respects mankind”.
The president added that Ekweremadu has positively touched every life in the senatorial zone.
He added  that they are solidly  behind the deputy senate president and urged him to continue his good work to mankind,  especially to Enugu State people.
Speaking on behalf of the five Local Government chairmen from the zone, the Executive Chairman of Ezeagu local government area, Hon Chukwudi Ezinwa, said they were ready to see to Senator Ekweremadu’s  re-election.
Responding, Ekweremadu commended his people for choosing him as their candidate for senate. He disclosed how he has been battling to deliver good governance to his people who sent him to represent them at federal level.
Ekweremadu, who could not hide his joy, said:  “God is with us and I can see the sun shining. I think this is one of the greatest moments of my political career. I thank you all and if it ends today I will go back to my creator and thank Him for using you people to humble me today. I thank you for all your beautiful thought about me.
“Recently, I have been thinking of what to do with my political career. I prayed for God to direct me. I came to a crossroads. I looked back at our past engagement in the constituency and by His grace, we have achieved great in infrastructure, we also achieved cohesion and unity in the whole of Enugu west.
He recalled his past experiences,  saying,  “I thought of recent harassment and persecution and I said let God take control of everything. I believe it will be as God want it to be. At a time I thought of what to do. Two things came to my mind, to come back home, mentor youths on politics or to come back and take a lecturing job to impact my academic knowledge to students”.
Ikeoha went further to say,  “I can only work in accordance with your direction because you are my employer. Wherever you want me to go, I will go”.
