Court fixes June 8 to hear property case against Mike Okiro

A Federal Capital Territory High Court has fixed June 8, 2016 for the hearing of a property case filed against a former Inspector General of Police, Mr. Mike Okiro, by Kundu Nigeria Limited.
The hearing, which was earlier adjourned to May 2 could not hold as a result of the Federal Government-declared public holiday to commemorate this year’s Workers Day.
It was, therefore, in view of this that Justice Baba Yusuf further adjourned the case to the new date.
Okiro, Chairman of the Police Service Commission (PSC), and the landlord of his Abuja residence, are presently not in good terms following reports that the former IGP has refused to quit the residence.
The landlord, Kundu Nigeria Limited, had as a result of this filed a case against Okiro before the FCT High Court seeking an order that will compel Okiro to vacate the property and pay “mesne profit from October 31, 2015 at N666,666.00 per month till when judgement is entered.”
At the last hearing of the case, the defense counsel had filed a motion for two other independent parties to join in the suit but the judge struck out the motion, saying the defence could not request the court to allow other parties join in the case when the defence itself was yet to become part of the case by filing a motion of appearance.
However, the defence counsel, Mr. Ayodeji Ademola, urged the court to grant them a short stay to file a motion of appearance and join two other parties in the case.
