The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has commended SUNU Assurance Plc for its unrelenting support to the institute and the entire insurance industry.
Mr Edwin Igbiti, President, CIIN, said this in a statement made available on Wednesday in Lagos, following a courtesy visit by the institute to the insurer.
Igbiti said SUNU Assurance had come of age and continued to thrive despite the challenging operating environment.
He explained that the courtesy visit, planned for most insurance company, was aimed at encouraging professionals in the industry.
“All employees in the various companies are members of the institute and to encourage our professionals, we need to also encourage the companies that the future is brighter.
“Today, we have come to tell you about the lined up programs that we have at the institute and seek for your support,” he said
According to him, one of the upcoming program that the Activity Committee of the institute will hold in March is the Talent Night.
Igbiti sought the support of insurers and also charged them to bring up their talents to participate at the upcoming event.
He also solicited for support from underwriters to enable the institute complete the abandoned site for its secretariat.
Speaking on ethics and good practices in the industry, the CIIN’s president said, insurance companies must be wary that ethics is what project a profession.
“We must observe governance issues in the insurance industry because it is the sustainability that will project us and sustain us against the future.
“Insurance companies, in collaboration with our regulators, must ensure that the risk-based supervision comes into effect and by so doing, check the clinical position of every company.
“If we keep on checking and in good time give them a feedback as to how they are performing, it will help them not to go down,” he said.
CIIN’s Activity Committee Chairman, Mrs Yinka Adekoya, who was part of the team on the visit, said the upcoming Talent Night would replace Miss Insurance Night and would showcase young insurance professional employees of companies.
Adekoya, who was the former Managing Director of Coronation Insurance Plc, urged SUNU to encourage its young staff to come out to contest, so that they can pick the best talent in the industry.
The President of the Professional Insurance Ladies Association (PILA), Mrs Margaret Moore, said Miss Insurance was scrapped to accommodate the male counterpart as the competition is not about just beauty but brain.
Commenting, the Managing Director, SUNU Assurance, Mr Samuel Ogbodu, assured the institute of the company’s continuous support of the industry’s activities.
Ogbodu said SUNU has been growing steadily and is committed to the growth of insurance in the country.
He stated that the company was able to achieve the impressive performance due to its strategic master plan.
“SUNU has grown by over 100 per cent between 2017 till date with a robust reinsurance facility which is very vital to any insurance company’s claims payment capability.
“We are always ready to pay genuine claims because we are in business to pay claims and compensate for losses or damages sustained by a policyholder within 48hours after issuing discharge voucher,” he said.
