Chairmen of local governments in Lagos State have urged residents to celebrate Christmas with love and support government’s policies, to foster development.
Some of the council chairmen made the call in separate statements on Monday in Lagos.
Chief Ganiyu Egunjobi, the Executive Chairman Agege Local Government, urged residents to imbibe the spirit of love and unity to ensure progress and development in the community.
“Dear good people of Agege local government, I felicitate with you all on the occasion of Christmas celebration.
” This is the time to reflect on the sacrifices and doctrines of Jesus Christ, which centered on love, affection and peaceful coexistence with exchange pleasant gifts and and merry together.
“While thanking the good people of the council area for their steadfastness, i urge you all to support government at all levels to forster growth and development of our dear nation.
“Let me reassure you that the synergy between the council, Agege stakeholders and security agencies across to council area remains solid, and will stop at nothing to ensure residents enjoy the festival period and beyond peacefully”, he said
In his Christmas message to residents,Mr Olusola Ajala, Chairman, Odi-Olowo Ojuwoye Local Council Development Area also urged residents to support government at all levels for progress.
He said Christmas is all about giving and urged residents to use the season to show love to their neighbours and help the less privileged.
“Christmas, a time to embrace the spirit of giving, urges us to remember that helping the less fortunate is a noble deed.
“Let us find joy in simple pleasures, shun vices, and embrace virtues during this festive season.
“In our diverse nation, let religious tolerance be our guiding principle.
“May the enchantment of Christmas bring warmth to your home, love to your heart, and laughter to your life.”,he said.
Mr Kayode Omiyale, Executive Chairman Yaba Local Council Development Area (LCDA) , in his message, urged residents live peacefully with one another.
He also advised residents to shun vices ,saying the council would continue to do its best to deliver democratic dividends in the area.
“I implore us all to be law- abiding during and after this season.
“I wish us all an enjoyable and joyous holiday,” he said.
Dr Ahmed Apatira Executive Chairman Itire-Ikate LCDA also urged Nigerians ,especially Christians, to emulate virtues of humility, tolerance, perseverance and compassion as exemplified by Jesus Christ,
Apatira said that Christmas symbolises love, care and compassion for others , especially the weak, vulnerable and less privileged and urged Nigerians to use the season to rekindle acts of kindness to one another.
“The season symbolises love, care and compassion for persons, especially the weak, vulnerable and less-privileged.
“We need to put a smile on the faces of persons who may not necessarily be able to pay them back.
“Christmas is a season that explains the depth of God’s love for mankind and exemplary sacrifice that we should emulate in our relationship with our neighbours irrespective of status and creed.
“This season is another opportunity to increase our acts of kindness and touch the less privileged in our society,” he said.
He said administration was appreciative of the spirit of tolerance and cooperation which had provided the enabling environment for growth and development.
“And we will continue to promote healthy community relations with economic opportunities and empowerment prospects for all”,he said.
He expressed optimism that 2024 would witness greater all round development across the state ,including completion of several landmark projects expected to change the face of the various communities.
