The Catholic Order of Knights of St. Mulumba (KSM) has urged the Federal Government to ameliorate the hardship of Nigerians.
Dr Charles Mbelede, a Supreme Knight, made the appeal in Abuja at a media briefing to mark the 70th anniversary of KSM in Nigeria.
The Theme of the anniversary is: “70 Years of Knight of St. Mulumba, Nigeria, Reappraising the Past, Redefining the Present and Reshaping the Future”.
Mbelede said that the amelioration would cushion the hardship that poor Nigerians were going through in the country.
He said that the earning ability of Nigerians and their purchasing powers have kept plunging geometrically due to the double-digits inflation index of goods and services.
Mbelede said: “We urge the government to be people centered and endeavor to ameliorate the hardship of the ordinary Nigerians who are at the receiving end of poor policy formulations and implementation.”
He said that KSM had remained a forceful voice for the oppressed, raising alarm through media advocacies on security, economic and moral decadence in the country.
“We have been putting a lot for advocacies for insecurity, economic problems and the general situation in the country.
“We are joining the government to ensure that security is improved because it is our right to sleep and close our eyes.
“It is our right for our lives and properties to be properly protected by those in charge to do their work so that we too can do our work,” he said.
