Rivers United Head Coach, Stanley Eguma has said that his team would have scored  up to three goals against Club African of Tunisia if luck was on their side.

United defeated Club African by a lone goal to secure three points in the group stage of the CAF confederation cup.

Eguma said this duringa  post match briefing at Godswill Akpabio International stadium in Uyo on Sunday.

The coach said that the players played to instruction as the game was highly technical for both teams.

“It was a good game but highly technical. I give kudos to my players for keeping up to the tactical discipline today.

“Club Africain is a good team, there’s no doubt, the way they played, the play with a lot of tactics and all our tactical plans worked out.

“We should have scored more than three goals today, just that we are unlucky, most of our balls hit the bar.

“I wish to say that when the game started the opponent were very fast on the ball and we tried to calm them down and cool down the tempo of the game and play at our own pace.

“We dictated the pace until the later part of the first half when we got the goal and tried to hold on to it until the end of first half,” Eguma said.

Eguma said though he has picked the three points the team will not rest until they get to Tunis and secure victory.

He, however, added that the win will boost the psychology of the players in the next match as they are playing Club African in 10 day’s time.

“It was a good game and today we have picked the three points and it is not the end of it. I think it is not yet time for celebration because we have other games to play.

“We must be clinical if we must get an  away win from home. We have to go back to Tunis to keep a clean slate and then face other challenges after now,” he said.

Coach Said Saibi of Club  African of Tunisia in his post match briefing said his team played well but missed scoring chances.

Saibi said that he was hopeful that they will secure a win in their return match to stay on top of the group.

“We must try to win the next match in Tunis in 10 days’ time to stay on top of the group, ” Saibi said.
