Lotte Kopecky won the Nokere Koerse one-day race in her native Belgium on Wednesday, just four days after the death of her brother.

The 27-year-old held on after launching an attack seven kilometres from the finish.

“It wasn’t an easy few days. I rode for two today,” she told reporters after crossing the line with her head bowed and with no celebration.

“I decided to race. I just wanted to do it.”

Seppe Kopecky died suddenly on Saturday aged 29.

He got his sister into cycling and competed in triathlons.

Brussels-based football club Anderlecht held a minute’s silence for the fan on Sunday.
