Former Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Mohammed Sanusi Barkido, on Thursday, replaced Libya’s Abdalla El-Badri to become the Secretary-General of the Organisation of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC).
The appointment was announced during OPEC’s 169th meeting in Vienna, Austria.
Barkindo was acting Secretary-General of OPEC in 2006. He was NNPC GMD from 2009 to 2010.
The Federal Government appointed Barkindo for the position quoting his qualification and experience.
