The Association of Nursery and Primary Education Instructors in Nigeria (ANPEIN) has urged government and health stakeholders to promote a culture of breastfeeding that fosters healthier, happier and brighter future.
The National President of the association, Mr Sunday Fowowe, said this in a statement to mark the 2023 World Breastfeeding Day, with the theme, “Nurturing the Future”, on Friday, in Lagos.
Fowowe said this would help in creating an enabling environment for breastfeeding mothers.
“We must join hands to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding, dispel myths, and provide the necessary support for mothers to breastfeed successfully.
“We need to emphasize the invaluable significance of breastfeeding in early childhood development, ” he said.
According to him, breastfeeding is not just a natural act; it is a vital cornerstone of nurturing and shaping the future generation of the nation.
Fowowe said that the early years of a child’s life were the most crucial for his or her physical, cognitive and emotional growth.
“As educators, we understand that a child’s success begins with a strong foundation.
“Breastfeeding provides that foundation by ensuring optimal nutrition and fostering a strong bond between mother and child, ” he said.
Fowowe noted that education instructors had the privilege of advocating breastfeeding, not only in classrooms but also within communities.
“As educators, we have the power to shape not only the minds of our children, but also their well-being from the very start,” he said.
