Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State says low productivity still  remains  one of the challenges facing the civil  service in the country.
Aregbesola said this at the  award presentation to outstanding  civil servants in the state  on Friday in Osogbo.
The governor said  that the ability of any country to develop its economy depended  on how efficient and productive its workforce could  be.
“ It is unfortunate that as big as we are, and as famous as we are as a nation, we still lack the required productivity and efficiency to succeed as a country,’’ he said.
Aregbesola, however, called on Nigerians, especially  ‎bureaucrats,  to rise up to the challenge by prioritising efficiency, productivity and competence.
“Our level of productivity as a people in Nigeria is abysmally low just as the menace has had negative impact on our economy as a nation. We have the resources but we are not productive.
“And very unfortunately,  our environment typifies the low level of our productivity and we have a lot to do to improve it,’’ he said.
The governor urged civil servants in the state to continue to support his administration, saying it was imperative they partner with government to make  life better for the people.
In his remarks, the Head of Service in Osun, Dr Olowogboyega Oyebade,  commended the governor for being committed to the human and capital development of the state.
Oyebade commended the governor for reviewing and approving the promotion for  all workers  who were due.
One hundred and seventy outstanding workers were honoured for being productive, efficient and diligent.
