Aregbesola, Gani Adams mourn Famakinwa

Governor Rauf Aregbesola of Osun State, on Friday, expressed shock over the death of the Director-General of the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), Mr. Dipo Famakinwa.
Aregbesola said Famakinwa’s sudden exit has left a sour taste in the mouths of all stakeholders in the development agenda for the South-West.
In a statement by the Director, Bureau of Communication and Strategy in the Office of the Governor, Mr. Semiu Okanlawon, Aregbesola has played a pivotal role in the efforts to integrate the South-west and use the platform to engender a new growth for the people of the region.
“We are left speechless with this sudden loss,” Aregbesola was quoted as stating.
The statement went further, “Famakinwa has been very dogged in the pursuit of that assignment given to him. He was committed wholeheartedly to the progress of the Yoruba. Through the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria, we have moved to accelerate regional revolutionary growth to rediscover our strength as a people of common heritage through agriculture, culture, education, and even sports development.
“Since the birth of that organization, Famakinwa has left no one in doubt on his comprehensive understanding of what we set out to do and the zeal with which he pursued the assignment has been commendable.”
The Governor said it is painful that the late Director General of DAWN did not live long enough to see the objectives of the organization come into full fruition before his untimely exit.
“We are, however, consoled by the fact that Famakinwa did his best to raise the consciousness of this region. We are also consoled by the fact that death is a necessary end and must come when it is its time. On behalf of the good people of the State of Osun, I commiserate with his immediate and extended families, members of the DAWN Commission family, my colleague governors and other stakeholders in the development agenda of our region. May the soul of Famakinwa rest with his Lord perfectly.”
National Co-ordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, described the death as a tragedy for the entire Yoruba race in particular and Nigeria in general 
According to Otunba Gani Adams: “It is heart breaking to learn about the exit of a special breed Yoruba man who displayed unalloyed personal commitment to integrative development initiative of Yoruba land . It is a tragedy not only for his family but the Yoruba race in particular”
Adams, who is also the Global Convener of Oodua Progressive Union (OPU), said: “It is a tragedy. It is sad that death has removed and cut down one of the most deeply intelligent and sound Yoruba young turks from our midst. Dipo Famakinwa was a prominent and accomplished Yoruba icon who was diligent and thorough at his duty post. A wonderful son of Oduduwa who was blessed with a prodigious native intelligence laced with intellectual soundness. He was a man of yesterday, today and tomorrow combined. Honestly, death has not been fair to the Yoruba race.
“Mr Famakinwa was unique in deeds, acts and personal relations. He had this special interest in the development and unity of the Yoruba race and spent most of his life engaging in pro Yoruba development ventures without pecuniary consideration. Honestly, death has not been fair to the race”
Adams sympathised with the family of the deceased and prayed to God to give them the fortitude and forbearance to bear the loss of “one of the most vibrant Yoruba cultural developers”
Adams called on the Governors of the South – West to immortalise Famakinwa who has quietly done a lot of work on the integration of Yoruba state. 
“I am using this opportunity to call on the governors of the South-West not to allow his death lead to the demise of his persons and works on the face of the Earth. Mr Famakinwa did his best for the region; we should immortalise him, not only for his person but to encourage others. We are missing him. May the Lord grant him eternal Rest! He was a useful personality for the West”
