The Apapa Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) generated N32.9 billion in September, down from
N34.9 billion recorded in August.
The Customs Area Controller of the Command, Comptroller Willy Egbudin, disclosed this on Monday in Lagos.
In the breakdown, the sum of N14.6 billion was generated into the Non-Federation account, while N18.3 billion went into the Federation account.
A further breakdown showed that N335.4 million was generated from Common External Tariffs (CET); and N1.8 billion realised from Comprehensive Import Supervision Scheme (CISS).
Egbudin said that the command generated 10.5 billion from Import Duty; N1.5 billion on Fees and Others; while N1.03 billion was raked in from ECOWAS Trade Liberation Scheme (ETLS).
According to Egbudin, the record was made at a time the ports and operators were going through low volume of trade and high exchange rate.
The controller urged officers of the command to redouble their efforts in maximising revenue generation, lawful trade facilitation and not to compromise while enforcing Customs laws.
Egbudin told officers of the command that national security must not be compromised at the ports and terminals in order to facilitate trade and revenue collection.
He said that the recent increase in revenue collection came as a result of increased supervision, closer monitoring and regular outreach to
importers and agents.
Egbudin said that the service was having regular stakeholders’ meeting on the need to comply with stipulated rules, while issuing notices for under-declaration of goods.
He said that he had been visiting various units and terminals under him regularly to ensure that officers were at their duty posts during specified work hours.
“The Comptroller-General’s directives are very clear on matters affecting our duties.
“We must not in any way act outside the law or encourage people to do so.
“Importers and agents who violate the law will face the full wrath of the law,’’ the controller said.
Egbudin also advised officers not to relent in doing more for the country as a way of justifying the confidence reposed in them by their deployment to the flagship command of the service.
