Enyimba chairman, Felix Anyansi-Agwu, has opted to quit after guiding the side to a record seventh league title in his 15-year reign as Chairman of the club.
The People’s Elephant held hosts, Sunshine Stars, to a goalless draw on last day match 38 clash of the Nigeria professional Football League (NPFL) on Sunday at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
The Aba Billionaires won the league shield finishing their season’s campaign on an unprecedented record on 70 points.
Anyansi-Agwu said there is no better time to quit the side than now after he fingered intense pressure as reason for his decision.
“Intense pressure from people who felt that I have stayed too long as well as consideration for my health are the reasons I felt the right time to throw in the towel is now after seeing the side win an unprecedented seventh league title.

“The pressure on me to quit has been unprecedented despite quality results I have garnered within the period.

“I have given everything in me to see Enyimba succeed and if the place I come from has suddenly begin to hurt some people I think the sensible thing is to give way and allow some other people to come in and manage the team.

“I have set record as chairman of Enyimba and for me, whether or not in the service of the club, the key for me is the survival of the club.

“Football is a system thing you just need a conducive atmosphere to work and when such condition is lacking, you must give way.

“Imagine if your son is always taking the first position in class and suddenly people ganged up by saying that your son’s teacher must be stopped from teaching your son, the signal is clear that they are up to something ominous,” said Anyansi-Agwu.

Asked his next line of service after quitting Enyimba Anyansi-Agwu said he will wait on to the Lord for direction.

“My God will decide for me,” Anyansi-Agwu said.

Anyansi-Agwu spent over 16 years at the helms of affair of the club during which period the side won back to back the CAF Champions League in 2003 and 2004 as well as league titles and Federation Cup shields among other laurels.
