A MEMBER of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP), Dr. Livinus Nwambe, is dead.
Nwambe, the pioneer chairman of the defunct All Peoples Party (APP) in Ebonyi State, died on Monday night in Abakaliki after complaining of difficulty in breathing.
ANPP National Chairman, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu, described the death as shocking.
Onu, who spoke through one of his aides, Mr Sunny Onyeukwu, said that the deceased would be missed as an elder in the party.
“As a member of the BOT, Chief Nwambe could have been at the national convention of the party billed for Saturday, May 11.
Chairman of ANPP in Ebonyi, Chief Emenike Orji, also confirmed the death.
He said that the late Nwambe had gone to a barbing salon to have a hair cut, but suddenly started gasping and complained of difficulty in breathing.
“This development made him to be rushed back home at Nnorom Street, Abakaliki from where he was taken to the hospital.
“But unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by doctors at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki,” he said.
He described the passing away of the 58-year-old Nwambe, as painful and a blow to Ebonyi State and the country in general.
Relations, friends and politicians across party line have converged on his residence.
A Director in the Directorate of Enlightenment and Attitudinal Change in Ebonyi State, Mr Kelechi Mbam, expressed grief and deep sense of loss at the death of Nwambe.
Mbam, who hails from Ikwo Local Government Area, same as the deceased, said that the community would miss him.
“He was loved and respected by all, the community and the political circle in the state.
“He was a detribalised politician, he would be missed for his principles and political stance on issues,” Mbam said.
