Ogun State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Prince Gboyega Isiaka, has accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Governor Ibikunle Amosun, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of raping democracy in the Gateway State.
He said their conduct during Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections was a threat to democracy.
In a statement he personally ‎signed, he noted that he did not see his electoral defeat as a personal loss.
Isiaka declared: “I participated in the gubernatorial election few days ago and INEC has declared Senator Ibikunle Amosun, FCA of the APC as the winner of that contest.
“The events before and during this election are clear to the good people of Ogun State that demonstrated great resolve for a better life with their massive votes for the PDP; but their wish was truncated. The circumstance of this result will be a talking point for a long time to come. The result is still being studied and I believe at the appropriate time, my party will make its position known.
“I still see Ogun State as a bundle of potential and opportunities if better managed. Politics and public office should not be a route to achieving personal goals but a privilege to leave a legacy that uplifts society. Consequently, I do not see this temporary setback as a personal loss but rather, it is a rape on democracy and threat to good governance. That threat will not stand the test of time.
“I deeply appreciate all people who approached the election with a mind that an end has come to all impunity. What we witnessed on Saturday is a deprivation for those who hoped for a better future in my mandate.
“These women whose livelihood have been taken away, the children that study under crude conditions, our youths that have no gainful jobs, the public workers that are deprived of their rights and treated shabbily, the rural dwellers that desired development in their areas and the masses that have no opportunities to create wealth for themselves. These are those that I feel a sense of loss for”.
