Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi 111, has  attributed insurgency and other security challenges facing the country to international  conspiracy with the connivance of some unpatriotic citizens.
Oba Adeyemi gave the assertion when the new Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 11 comprising Oyo, Osun and Ondo States, Mr. Danjuma Ibrahim, paid him a courtesy visit in his palace.
He said there are possibilities that some unsrupulous Nigerians in connivance with some evil intentioned international bodies are supporting killers in Nigeria, in their desperation to get at the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The world has on several occasions been appalled by the wanton killings in Nigeria from incidents attributed to clashes between herdsmen and farmers. Attacks upon attacks in affected communities have been blamed on “killer” herdsmen, who in such instances prove elusive as not much would be heard about the daring killer squads that carry out such crimes against humanity”.
The situation has triggered a cycle of blame game within Nigeria, with the consequence that the persons behind these killings, at least responsible in part, are successfully evading justice. There is  therefore urgent need to investigate some of these unpatriotic persons and who are desperate in discrediting the present administration with their dastard missions ’.
‘’Trans-human is a phenomenon that is not peculiar to Nigeria. It has been worsened by climate change, urban sprawl, among others.
”It is important that the federal government begins investigation into the killings, murder, robbery cases in the affected states in the country, as this will unearth and unmask perpetrators and sponsors of formation of militias, which they armed with weapons prohibited under several international protocols’’.
“Taking cognisance of the continued desecration of the sanctity of human life, Alaafin pointed out that  a full investigation into the role some politicians are playing in the killings attributed to farmers/herders’ crisis is important.
“Arising from the findings of the full investigation, government should take the steps necessary to deter the kind of disregard for human lives as it is presently the trend. Time is of essence for whatever intervention the government has to make since it is important that Nigerians are reassured ahead of the  forthcoming general elections,”.
Commending  the Armed Forces in the country for re-strategizing their operations in the North East leading to the restructuring, Oba Adeyemi pointed out that introduction of new platforms and equipment which has considerably changed the tide against the insurgents and has led to so many successes recorded in the theatre of operations.
”Sincethere is a positive relationship between peace and the actualization of economic development,  the Nigerian Armed Forces in keeping up with their constitutional mandate of defending the territorial integrity of the country,  are also kin on ensuring that the right atmosphere to promote economic development is maintained all over the country”.
The monarch said while the ship of the country may be battered severally on the high seas before now, but with discipline, hard work, selflessness, patriotism, dedication and unalloyed support for President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration, the ship will safely anchor and be renewed to the surprise of everyone in the world.
He said security is critical to the survival of any nation to forestall lawlessness, chaos and the eventual disintegration of the country, as it is considered as a dynamic condition, which involves the relative ability of a nation to counter threats to its core values and interests..
The security of a nation, the paramount ruler noted is predicated on two central pillars viz; the maintenance and protection of the socio-economic order in the face of internal and external threat on one hand and the promotion of a preferred international order, which minimises the threat to core values and interests, as well as to the domestic order on the other hand.
‘’ Security is an all–encompassing holistic concept which implies that the territory must be secured by a network of armed forces; that the sovereignty of the country must be guaranteed by a democratic and patriotic government, protected by the military, police and the people themselves. The people must not only be secure from external attacks but also from devastating consequences of internal upheavals, unemployment, hunger, starvation, diseases, ignorance, homelessness, environmental degradation and pollution and socio-economic injustices’’.
Alaafin who also lauded the Nigeria Police for their unalloyed commitment and dedication towards vigorously combating crimes and criminal activities in-spite of all odds, however pledged his support to the law enforcement agency.
He also admonished the Police on how to effectively tackle critical security challenges confronting the country.
According to him, “Nigeria is not the only country facing security challenges today. Thefundamental thing is how you deal with these challenges. We can sustain national security operations or options by using native intelligence gathering as a response to national security threat.”
The paramount ruler pointed out that the Old Oyo Empire lasted 60 years because of effective native internal security.
“It is important for government to take holistic view on information gathering as a system for addressing insecurity. It must take into consideration the need to harmonise the roles of law enforcement and security agencies and the need to deploy technologies required for identification of criminal suspect. Three quarter of the universe is in a state of unrest due to lack of effective internal security.’’
Said he, ’’all criminal activities in Oyo metropolis such as stealing , burglary and kidnapping had been drastically reduced due to concerted efforts of the Inspector General of Police and his focused, loyal and dedicated officers and men. My people have not been reporting or complaining about any undesirable acts by the police. The officers and men are indeed responsible and diligent to their duties.’’
Earlier, AIG Ibrahim, told the paramount ruler that he was in the palace on familiarization visit, and to acknowledge Alaafin’s unequaled contributions to national security, peace, progress and welfare of the Police in particular.
He also delivered a message from the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris,on the importance of traditional institutions in sustaining peace, harmony and development in the country.
According to the IG, traditional institutions are part of the working tools that could make democracy and development sustainable and be consolidated.
Since the citizens who are the major determiners of the success or otherwise of democratic and development programmes are under the traditional influence of their rulers, then the position of traditional rulers as potent mobilisers, advisers, mediators, facilitators, adjudicators and nominators should be greatly be harnessed.
‘’The traditional institutions which are the only remnants of our pre-colonial political system must be preserved, promoted, strengthened and acknowledged. This is because traditions and history have placed them in an uncommon position that modernity cannot erase. Therefore, the potential of traditional rulers towards sustaining and consolidating democracy and development must be explored rather than jettisoned’’.
