Ondo State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), has told his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) counterpart, Mr. Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), to forget the idea of governing the Sunshine State.
Akeredolu said Jegede and the PDP would be rejected by voters on November 26 because Governor Olusegun Mimiko wants to impose him on the people to achieve his third term agenda.
Describing Jegede as a stooge of Mimiko, he declared: “The point must be made clearly that Eyitayo Jegede’s candidacy is a daring attempt by Governor Olusegun Mimiko to seek a third term in office from the backdoor through the use of a stooge. Mimiko intends to impose upon Ondo State a wall almanac or a lickspittle governor as a surrogate to be controlled and manipulated from the innermost chamber of his country home in Ondo”.
Akeredolu’s position was contained in a statement by Team Aketi 2017 and signed by the Chairman of its Research and Communication Unit, Kunle Adebayo.
The statement reads: “In campaigning for Eyitayo Jegede SAN, the PDP candidate, Ondo State Governor Olusegun Mimiko has been going round the state claiming the people of Ondo State prefer the PDP and its candidate to APC and its candidate, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu SAN.
“Mimiko, in trying to mobilise voters, boasted that Jegede’s tenure will bear an indelible imprints on the lives of the people and he will achieve monumental feat much more that his own tenure.
“It is important to state that Mimiko’s boasts are not only insulting to the memory and intelligence of the people of the state, they are evidences of his disdain for the sensibilities and emotions of the people.
“It is saddening and outrageous that anyone could contemplate demeaning the quality and responsibility of the office of Governor of Ondo State through attempts at installing incompetence.
“Everyone knows that the responsibilities of a governor is a serious business which require knowledge, experience, competence and fortitude. It is not a child’s play or a game for beginners or experimentalists.
“It is, therefore, unthinkable that an unprepared, untrained, inexperienced and untested Jegede can dream of being governor in a highly-sensitive state with wounded, cheated and angry electorate.
“Also, what has remained a wonder to every right thinking citizen of Ondo State are the values and ideals Jegede wishes to parade as campaign issues when the Mimiko government academy, where he purportedly trained and graduated from, has been adjudged as very corrupt, ineffectual and a monumental failure.
“It is shameful and unthinkable that a man of Eyitayo Jegede’s standing can donate himself to be used as a stooge for Mimiko’s third term Agenda.
“Having being misled and presented as a clannish candidate bottled into a parochial and arrogant campaign, our candid advice to the PDP candidate is to, above all, resist the Golgotha push from a discredited godfather and plot a post-election exit strategy to his Adamawa Law Chamber after his defeat.”
