The prediction of former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN), that the result of the governorship primaries of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State will shock the National Leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, came to pass on Sunday morning at the International Event Centre (The Dome), Akure.
At exactly 12:45 am, the Chief Returning Officer of the primaries and Governor of Jigawa State, Mohammed Abubakar, announced that Akeredolu won the exercise with 669 votes.
Akeredolu was the candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in the 2012 election.
In the build-up to the primaries, Tinubu had openly canvassed support for Mr. Olusegun Abraham as his preferred candidate.
This open declaration led to a serious crisis in the state chapter of APC, a development which led to President Muhammadu Buhari summoning all the 24 aspirants to a meeting in Abuja.
Buhari, who was represented by the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal, told the aspirants that nobody would be imposed during the primaries.
At the end of the exercise, Abraham came second with 635 votes.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the 2012 election, Olusola Oke, got 576 votes while Senators Robert Boroffice and Omotayo Alasoadura got 471 and 206 votes respectively.
Four votes were declared invalid.
Below is the full result:
Olusegun Abraham 635 votes; Tunji Abayomi 5; Adefemiwa Foluso Mayowa 13; Adegbonmire Adeniyi 8; Adegoroye Ademola 0; Aderin Abiodun Adesida 2; Adetula Olubukola 8; Rotimi Akeredolu 669; Akingbade Akinwale 3; Akinnola Akinyinka 1; Akinrinsola Odunayo Oyewole 2; Akinyelure Ayo 3 and Alasoadura Omotayo 206.
Others are Paul Akintelure 1; Jumoke Anifowose 1; Olatunji Ariyomo 3; Awodeyi 2; Bode Ayorinde 67; Robert Boroffice 471; Ekungba Jamiu Afolabi 44; Niran Oladunni 3; Olusola Oke 576; Olanbimtan Victor 18 and Taiwo Oyewunmi 7.
In his acceptance speech, Akeredolu thanked Abubakar for ensuring a transparent exercise.
While calling on other aspirants to support him during the campaign, he declared that he would defeat the PDP candidate, Eyitayo Jegede, on November 26.
