Adidas gives IAAF till year end to clear doping crisis

Adidas says it has given the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) up till the end of 2016 to demonstrate that has dealt with its doping crisis.
IAAF’s President Sebastian Coe revealed this at the two-day meeting of IAAF Council which started on March 10 in Monaco.
He said that Adidas would carry out its threat to terminate the IAAF multi-million dollar contract, if the corruption embedded within the organisation was not resolved.
“The German sportswear company had reportedly decided to end its 11-year $33 million contract with IAAF, following publication of the second World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Independent Commission report in January.’’
Coe said that the corruption report led to Adidas writing to IAAF informing it that they were ending their contract.
“It has now emerged, though, that Dentsu, the IAAF’s Japanese-based commercial partners, persuaded Adidas to give the IAAF another chance.
“Dentsu has been able to deal with this. Adidas will stay with us until the end of the year,” Coe told delegates at the start of the meeting.
Coe also told the IAAF Council that he was optimistic that he could persuade Nestlé to reverse their decision to end their sponsorship of the Kids’ Athletics programme.
“I am dealing personally with this matter, these are long-term discussions.”
Coe also revealed that he planned to call an extraordinary general meeting of IAAF later in the year to discuss the radical reforms he was proposing.
