Adeyemi College holds seminar on how to access TETFUND academic funds

The Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance (DAPQA), Adeyemi College of Education (ACE), Ondo, Ondo State has organised a one-day seminar for staff of the institution, on windows of opportunities provided for academic development by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
The programme, held on Tuesday September 6, featured the presentation of topic entitled ‘The Process and Procedures for accessing TETFUND Academic Intervention Funds’ by the Chairman, Tetfund Research Committee, who is also the Director, Directorate of Academic Planning and Quality Assurance ( DDAPQA) in the College, Dr (Mrs) Ireti Folasade Alao.
Explaining the role performed by TETFUND in the advancement of education in Nigeria, the DDAPQA listed areas of intervention of the body to include thematic areas such as Science, Technology and Innovation as well as Cross cutting, Humanities and Social Sciences.
In addition, she also stated that as a way of boosting academic content and advancing development of academic staff, TETFUND has about five intervention areas such as local and international conference attendance, academic staff training and development, local and foreign studies sponsorship, Research and Development grants as well as Academic manuscript and Book intervention, among others, through which it carries out its activities.
While emphasising the need for academic staff in the College to make effective use of the opportunity provided by TETFUND to enhance their career, through early submission of their letters of application, Dr. Alao noted that the establishment of the body by the Federal Government, as an intervention agency, was aimed at providing support to people, who want to make advancement in their academic career, but could not do so, as a result of inadequate finance.
She urged them to embrace various opportunities available in the TETFUND intervention, by applying for them and abide with rules and regulations guiding their utilisation.
According to her, even though TETFUND intervention is meant for both teaching and non-teaching staff, it is only those whose appointments have been confirmed, and have fresh letters of admission from approved tertiary institutions, that could be allowed to participate in the utilisation of the funds, in line with dictates of the organisation.
She enumerated various intervention modes offered by TETFUND, as well as the amount allocated for each intervention for academic staff wishing to pursue Masters and Ph.D programmes in Nigerian and foreign universities.
While assuring fairness in the treatment of all applications submitted to the Tetfund Research Committee under her leadership, which also have Dr. Akinmusire Aliu Patrick, Vice-Dean, School of Education, Mr. Ayeyemi Oluwatoyin Ebenezer, Vice-Dean, School of Arts and Social Sciences, Mr. Bolarinwa Kayode Omotayo, Vice-Dean, School of Vocational and Technical Education as well as Ogunranti Julius Ipadeola and Sanni Rafiu Olugbenga Vice-Deans School of Languages and Science respectively as members, she stated that application for use of the fund would be considered on first come, first serve basis.
Dr Alao, however, enjoined beneficiaries to always ensure full retirement of money released to them and acknowledge TETFUND in all documents pertaining to the programmes for which they were sponsored by the agency.
The event, which held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Auditorium, climaxed with a question-and-answer session.
