Ekiti guber: Oyebanji defeats Bamidele, Adeyeye, others to emerge APC candidate

The Senator representing Ekiti North Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Olubunmi Adetumbi, has advised governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC), that withdrew at the twilight of last Thursday’s primary to be honest in their process, which he described as transparent and all-inclusive.

Speaking on Channel TV’s POLITICS TODAY on Monday evening, Adetumbi said the seven aspirants who claimed the election was marred by irregularities were only looking for ways to condemn the process because they knew there was no way they could have won in the contest, considering the popularity of the APC candidate, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, among the party members.

The Senator said voting took place in more than 90 per cent of the 177 wards in Ekiti said he was embarrassed with the conclusion of seven party members that there was no election on Thursday.

“I am from Ifaki Ekiti and I voted in my ward like other members of the party in other wards. Thank God for this digital era, the process was captured in videos and photographs that have since gone viral. It is also necessary to point out that officials of Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), independent observers and security personnel were on ground to make sure everything went on as planned. We all saw these officials moving from one ward to the other, asking questions and taking note in line with their constitutional duties,” Adetumbi stated.

Senator Adetumbi also faulted the argument that only party members that were sympathetic to Oyebanji’s candidature were recruited to supervise the election, stressing that there was no way APC members would not be given opportunity to serve as electoral officials, since it was a party affair.

Earlier, one of the aspirants, Mr. Kayode Ojo, an engineer, had tried, albeit unsuccessfully to paint an ugly picture that those on ground to monitor the election were mainly appointees of Governor Kayode Fayemi, who were serving the interest of Oyebanji.
