A political vibration is happening in Abuja as the planned unveiling of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as a unifying political platform for Nigeria’s opposition against the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027 suffered a setback on Wednesday.
This happened after Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments in Asokoro, venue of the partisan event, abruptly cancelled a fully paid reservation, hours before the programme.
The event was expected to formally introduce the ADC as the platform to challenge APC in the 2027 general elections.
But, organisers were informed on Wednesday morning that the hotel would no longer host the event due to an unspecified “internal compliance matter”.
A screenshot of the hotel’s message, posted on Wednesday by Dele Momodu on his Instagram page reads: “Dear Esteemed Patron, Thank you once again for choosing the Wells Carlton Hotel and Apartments
“We sincerely regret to inform you that due to an internal compliance matter that has just come to our attention, we are unable to proceed with hosting your scheduled event.
“We are fully aware that the event is less than 24 hours away, and we deeply apologise for the timing and inconvenience this may cause”.
