Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has reiterated commitment in
training and retraining of medical personnel for quality healthcare services.

He made this known at an event to mark the 2023 Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Physicians’ Week in Yola on Tuesday.

The Physicians’ Week is a week dedicated to physicians and the work they do.

It also affords physicians an opportunity to interact with members of the society and to undertake their Corporate Social Responsibilities.

The week has “It is Time To Get It Right In Health: The Abuja Declaration; 22 Years After” as the theme for 2023.

Fintiri, who was represented by the Head of Service, Mr Shehu Ardo, said “the state government is ready to partner
NMA and other stakeholders in improving the lives of citizens, in line with the objectives of the Abuja declaration.”

He commended the NMA for contributing to healthcare service delivery and assured easy access to care for people in the state.

Mr Esuwa Misali, the Permanent Secretary in the state’s Ministry of Health, said the theme of this year’s observance
is apt, and advised NMA to support government for more dividends of democracy in the health sector.

According to him, the choice of the theme will go a long way toward improving quality service for humanity.

He urged the physicians to always observe the ethics of the profession.

Dr Solomon Bulus, the NMA Chairman in Adamawa, said that the week is a period that physicians give back to the society through
medical outreach, positive engagements and collaboration with communities.

He added that “it is also a time to strengthen our collaboration with government and other partners for smooth healthcare
delivery.”

According to him, brain drain has hugely affected the country’s healthcare system, as medical doctors leave the country in droves
for greener pasture.

Dr Ahmad Usman, the acting Chief Medical Director of Modibbo Adama University Teaching Hospital (MAUTH),
Yola, appreciated and commended NMA for the positive contributions to healthcare system.

Represented by Dr Maisaratu Bakari, the Chairman, Medical Advisory Committee Clinical, Usman solicited the support of the
state government toward the maintenance of the Computed Tomography (CT) scan machine.

According to him, the machine is worth over N800 million and the challenge is the maintenance to serve people in the state.
