Abraham: Akeredolu’s candidature rubbishes Buhari’s anti-corruption crusade, says ‘APC will lose Ondo’

If Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) is eventually fielded as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, the party will lose the November 26 election.
Akeredolu’s challenger, Dr. Segun Abraham, who declared this on Wednesday, also said that the anti-graft crusade of President Muhammadu Buhari will be rubbished if the governorship primary election that produced Akeredolu on September 3 is upheld.
Speaking in Akure, Abraham said if the party wants to win the election, Akeredolu’s name must be removed by the leadership of the party before the deadline allowed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He wondered if the party and the President would encourage corruption in the party by allowing someone who emerged through fraudulent governorship primary to fly the flag of the party in the forthcoming election.
According to him, National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu, National Vice Chairman of APC in the Southwest, Chief Pius Akinyelure and the Appeal Committee have described the governorship primary as fraudulent and asked for a fresh one. He said failure to do that would spell doom for the party in the state.
Also, he lambasted the National Chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun over the statement that only INEC has the power to substitute candidate of the party.
Abraham said that the Electoral Act and the 1999 Constitution, as amended, stipulated who can substitute candidate and expressed disappointment with the position of the National Chairman.
He said: “I am very disappointed with the Chairman of the party that he does not read the Electoral Act and the Constitution. It is the same Oyegun who illegally and undemocratically sent the name of Akeredolu to INEC as the candidate.
“By Oyegun’s singular action, he has rubbished the anti corruption stance of Buhari’s government, by his singular action, he has rubbished the psyche of Nigerians telling them to do what they like and they would do that by voting them out come November 26. The interest of the party should be the utmost in the mind of the Chairman. Unfortunately, he is not bothered because of ego.”
