Nigeria’s Oluwatobiloba Amusan won the women’s 100 metres hurdles final gold at the 11th All Africa Games in Brazzaville, Congo on Tuesday.
The Nigerian sprinter ran a time of 13.15 seconds in the women’s event.
Amusan was off the starting blocks ahead of the field and her speed kept her just ahead of the chasing pack to the finish line.
The 18-year-old explained that her triumph on the tracks in the women’s 100 metres hurdles was down to the improvement in heats in the previous day.
“I am happy for this. It is an improvement in technique from the heats of yesterday,” Amusan, who ran a personal best of 13.11 seconds on Monday, responded when asked the strategy she applied to win gold.
Nigeria looked close to making it a one-two finish in the women’s 100 hurdles final as the athletes in second and third places ended up in an almost photo-finish.
But it was her compatriot, Lindsay Weyinme, who finished two places behind her to claim bronze in a time of 13.30 seconds.
Senegalese sprinter, Gnima Faye, finished in a season’s best of 13.28 seconds to win silver.
