The Kebbi Police Command says it has commenced investigation into the killing of a 35-year-old man and the abduction of his wife in the early hours of Friday in the Badariya area of Birnin Kebbi.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Bashir Usman, made this known in a statement issued in Birnin Kebbi on Friday.
Usman said the victim, identified as Sufiyanu Garba, was attacked at his residence by suspected criminals.
He said detectives from the command promptly visited the scene and commenced investigation into the incident.
Usman noted that a police checkpoint situated close to the scene could have been alerted earlier for a rapid response to the incident.
“The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital, Birnin Kebbi, where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital’s morgue,” he said.
Usman said the Kebbi Commissioner of Police had directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case for a comprehensive investigation.
The spokesman said the directive was aimed at securing the rescue of the abducted woman and bringing the perpetrators to justice.
He assured residents that the command had taken steps to further strengthen the security architecture across the state to prevent a recurrence of such incidents.
Usman also urged members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements and emergency situations to the police to enable swift response.
“Timely information from residents is crucial in averting incidents of this nature,” the spokesman said.
The PPRO advised residents to contact the command through its 24-hour emergency lines: 09039911876 and 07081974395, for distress calls and emergency assistance.
