The Organized Labour in Lagos State on Thursday endorsed the re-election of Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State, for another four years in office.

Speaking during the rally, organized by the unions, tagged ”Labour4Sanwo-Olu”, held at the Police College Parade Ground, Ikeja, Gov. Sanwo-Olu commended the unions for supporting his administration.

He said his government would continue to make life better and livable for workers in the state.

According to him, his administration is coming back bigger, stronger and better and will support and do things much more than have been done for the people of Lagos State.

”You are the reasons why we are in government. You are the reasons why we wake up every day to go to work and we will not disappoint you. We will not embarrass you, we take it very very, very seriously.

”I want to thank you very much. My party wants to thank you because this cuts across party lines, it cut across ethnic lines, it cut across religious lines, this is for performance, it is for delivery, it is for ensuring that we can provide sustenance and sustainability of life for each and everyone.

”So go out, tell your church members, tell your Muslim members, tell your community leaders, tell everybody under you that you have made a choice, your association has made a choice,” he said.

The Special Adviser to the Governor on Labour Matters, Mr Babatunde Williams, said that the Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s administration had been proactive in putting the welfare of workers at the front burner in the area of salary review, trainings among other interventions.

Williams said that the impact had been felt in various sectors in the state, in its feats to ensure the state remains economically stable.

In his goodwill message, Chairman, Joint Negotiating Council, Mr Segun Balogun, said the endorsement for the re-election of the administration is in the right direction because of the laudable initiatives and achievements, especially when it has to do with workers welfare, saying the Governor has taken his place in history.

The Chairman, Nigerian Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos State, Agnes Sessi, said this is the first time that labour in the state would come out to endorse the candidate of any party.

Sessi said that the Labour Unions had been sitting on the fence but now wanted to have a say in polity, by supporting Gov. Sanwo-Olu’s second-term re-election bid.

She said that 60 per cent of the people of the state are workers and that they have endorsed the governor and his deputy to return for another four years in office.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Trade Union Congress (TUC), Gbenga Ekundayo, said that democracy is about inclusion and that the governor has a listening ear and has been accommodating.
