Preparations for the 2019 presidential battle between the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are becoming intense by the day.
On Saturday, PDP took the battle to President Muhammadu Buhari’s home state of Katsina.
At a rally organised by the North-West chapter of the party, the PDP urged Nigerians to reject the ruling party in 2019 because “Nigerians cannot survive another four years of APC”.
At the rally were the PDP National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, Governors Ayodele Fayose (Ekiti), Darius Ishaku (Taraba), Emmanuel Udom (Akwa Ibom), Ibrahim Dankwambo (Gombe), Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT), Senator Walid Jibrin, former Senate President, Adolphus Wabara and other chieftains of the party.
Secondus told the mammoth crowd in Katsina that Nigerians must vote out the APC in 2019 “for the country to survive”.
As he was talking, the crowd was chanting ‘a kori yinwa’ (let’s chase out hunger).
He said: “Nigerians can no longer endure the suffering brought about by the APC administration. So, be ready to vote out APC and keep hunger out of your lives.
“Today, Nigeria’s unity is seriously under threat because of APC style that has made Nigerians enemies to themselves.
“APC has nothing to offer Nigerians. Here in Katsina State, APC has nothing to show outside what the late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and Ibrahim Shema did for you.
“PDP is the only party that has the interest of the people at heart. It is the only party that will guarantee national unity”
At the rally, thousands of APC members, led by governorship aspirant, Senator Mohammed Lado, defected to the PDP.
