$2.1bn arms deal: Why we may not arrest Jonathan, by EFCC boss

Despite calls for his arrest in the $2.1 billion arms deal involving his National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd), former President Goodluck Jonathan may not be arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC).
Acting EFCC Chairman, Ibrahim Magu, revealed in Lagos on Monday that although Jonathan approved the money for arms purchase, he did not approve its disbursement for other purposes.
Magu said at a meeting with online publishers: “All approvals by former President Jonathan did not mention that it was for political purposes. All the memos approved by him was for the purchase of arms. So, we may not invite or arrest him at all because we believe, based on evidence before us, that he knew nothing about the diversion of the money for other purposes”.
Lamenting that “unbridled corruption has inflicted deep wounds in the polity”, he vowed that the agency was determined to check the scourge in the land.
“No one, I repeat, no one, no matter how highly placed, shall be spared if he or she infringes on the laws of the land. In all my actions, I have been guided by the fear of God, national interest and the rule of law. The times we are in call for vigilance by all”.
Many prominent Nigerians have been fingered to have collected various sums of money from the $2.1 billion arms fund.
